An amazing sight...

For those of you who are lucky enough to know our dear Hannah, you know she's a pretty picky eater.  So tonight at dinner when we offered her a whole chicken leg we thought for sure it would be met with "no no no".  We were pleasantly surprised when she not only picked it up, but she ate a pretty good portion of it.  I think she liked the camera attention that came with it, too.

The big cheese...

Ever since picture day at school, we've had a cheeser on our hands...and we're lovin' the camera!!  Hannah's also big into coloring and will sit for nearly an hour while she writes down everyone's names, draws, doodles, finds different colors and writes down her As (how she has termed the alphabet).  Mommy's having a great time with her on the days that she is at home and I am in awe of all of the things that she knows...she is one brilliant little lady!!

After school today sitting at the counter coloring...I glanced over while I was making dinner and I saw a little girl there...no longer our baby Hannah.  She even decorated her face today at school with an Elmo sticker...she kept it on her face until bath time.  

All this coloring stuff can really wear a kid out!!

Apple Pickin'

Saturday we went apple picking and had a great time.  It was a wonderfully fall day, it was chilly and drizzly and we enjoyed every minute of it.  Hannah loved the tractor ride, picking the apples, eating a few along the way and a special doughnut treat!  Caleb slept the entire time, but he'll enjoy the family tradition next year!

Eating her doughnut on the tractor ride.  Although it took her a long time (she really savored it), she did manage to eat almost the entire thing.  The next morning she at one and a half before church.  She loves her dough-doughs!!

Oooh oooh ahhhh ahhhh

Yesterday we took a trip to the zoo with Grandma.  Hannah had a great time checking out all of the animals, although she was still a little unsure about feeding the giraffes and goats, so Grandma got the honors!!  It was Caleb's first trip to the zoo...he slept most of the day away, although he wore his zoo outfit and attracted lots of attention from other zoo-goers!  Hannah loved the peacocks and was even able to see a mommy peacock with her four babies walking around the zoo.  She talked a lot about the llamas after we saw them, too, although she didn't want anything to do with petting them.  I do believe the best part of her trip was hunting and finding acorns.  She has become obsessed with them and gets as many as she can to fill her cup holder in her stroller.  We were even able to bring some home as a souvenir!  It was a beautiful day and we had a great time sharing in it with Grandma.

The greatest highlight of the zoo is feeding the giraffes lettuce leaves.  Maybe next year Hannah will want to do it by herself!!

The County Fair

Today we ventured to see all kinds of God's creations at the county fair in St. Joseph County.  Hannah was pretty excited to be going and we thought she'd love seeing the animals...she taught us a thing or two!  For someone who talks about goats almost everyday, she didn't want to touch them or feed them at the petting zoo.  She was excited to see the turtles, kangaroos, and rabbits, but that was the extent of it.  The horses, cows, and pigs all seemed to be a little too big for her comfort.  She did LOVE the elephant ear that we shared and seeing all of the people that were there.  All in all she said she had a good time...Caleb slept most of the time and didn't get much of an opportunity to take in all the sights.  The weather was beautiful and it's now officially fall in the Terpstra household!

One week older...one week wiser!

How can it be that little Caleb is another week older?  We're all doing great, he's growing and getting stronger every day.  He weighs 8 lbs. 15 ounces and has grown over an inch since he was born.  As the pediatrician said, he's above average in the growth department and we both agreed he will be above average in everything he does!!!  Caleb's alert  and observant when he's awake which is a pretty good portion of the day.  At night, he is a perfect angel.  He gets up around 3:00 and again at 5:30 or 6:00, so it gives us both a pretty decent stretch of some wonderful sleep.  He doesn't fuss when I put him back in his crib and he doesn't make a peep until it's time to get up for the day.

Hannah loves her little brother and wants to give him kisses all the time.  She's still not interested in holding him, but he's the first one she looks for when she gets home from school.  The bottle and pacifier have grabbed her attention and she is overly interested when Caleb gets his one bottle a day.  She certainly doesn't miss ANYTHING and is very helpful getting diapers when we need them.  They are both wonderful blessings and we absolutely love our family!!

This past weekend we painted Caleb's room, a light blue called cool sky.  Now it's mommy's turn to make some curtains and get his name painted so we can hang some decorations.  Hannah enjoyed laying in Caleb's crib and admiring the new walls when it was all finished.

Since the new school by our house has opened, we've been there several evenings to allow Hannah to enjoy some fun at the playground.  This was Caleb's first trip...he slept the whole time.  (the second time he cried almost the entire time--we'll take sleeping over crying anytime!)  Hannah can climb up the rock wall all by herself and go down the slide of her choice.  The big kid playground is a little more difficult, although daddy helps her up and down the big slides.  Every time we go for a walk she chants "playground" for the majority of the time and is heartbroken when we have to pass by.  Her playground at home just doesn't cut it!!

When Hannah's home with us on Monday and Tuesday, Caleb does a lot of watching her in all of her activities...some tummy time watching the ball popper and Hannah playing with her favorite toy--balls!
